EASCOTE CC INDOOR BOWLS REPORT: WEEK 4 OF 7

06 Mar 2019

The scramble for the Mark Fielding Eastcote Cricket Club intensified last Friday as it dawned on teams that there were just two more rounds to establish a place in the top four to qualify for the all-important finals-day. The next exciting bowls round is at 8pm this Friday the 8th of March at the Club.

Controversy: Earlier in the week, controversy had reigned as it became clear the highly paid Bowls points counting guy had one job and he had screwed up. He had wrongly recorded that Bowling Stones had beaten WrongUns. The Eastcote Indoor Bowls headquarters received representations from three separate WrongUns executives pointing out the error. Contact was conspicuously absent from Bowling Stones proving beyond any doubt that the results had indeed been wrongly recorded. The highly paid Bowls points counting guy has been given a final warning and a calculator.

Stunts v WrongUns: A defeat today would have spelt the end of the season for Stunts, who are pound-for-pound the best team in the league (OK, they are also a bunch of skinny guys). For WrongUns, an unbeaten record was at stake.

The match stood up to its billing – highly competitive and of the greatest quality, one wholly appreciated by the bowls public. Facing defeat, a massive 4-0 round in favour of Stunts saw them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. This meant that Stunts live to fight another day and WrongUns lose their unbeaten record.

Immediately after the match key WrongUns players, Captain Adam and Sam were in conference in their office… OK, to be more precise, adjacent cubicles in the toilet discussing the match. Their conclusion was unanimous – the outcome was shit.

Carpet Burners: Captain Natalie had filled her oversees player slot with a Czech international … at ice hockey. Luca was a natural, playing some fantastic bowls from the outset. Asked how the experience was playing indoor bowls he said “Bowls is just like ice-hockey but without the fighting”.

Loose Women / Angry Birds: It has been remarkable to see the sharp improvement of a number of players. A case in point was the magnificent display last Friday by Loose Woman, Captain Louise and Angry Birds Corrine and Courtney.

The greatest improvement this year has been shown by Angry Birds and Loose Women. They play almost as if they have a 3 points start! Today the resurgent Loose Women beat Bowling Stones to reach fourth place on the points table! The Angry Birds put up an amazing show and missed only by a whisker to overcome tournament favourites Few Good Men! The tournament is hotting up indeed!
