Match report Eastcote 4th XI continued their strong start to the season by beating a good Cookham Dean side by 5 wickets.The match was played at North Maidenhead CC. Eastcote won the toss and elected to field on a warm afternoon.Chris Thom(13-2-63-1) and under 15 Michael Norris(9-2-43-1) opened the bowling with Chris Thom making a break through when he swung in a good delivery to the Cookham Dean opener. Eastcote did not have all their own way but keep going during the hot afternoon. Aaron Phillips(8-0-41-1) (another under 15) bowled first change and showed that he has a lot of potential with his left arm over seam up. Nick Stevens bowled very well in his first competitive league game for two years (7-2-15-1). He took a wicket with his first ball (great bowling change skip). Barry white rolled back the years and bowled a very tidy spell of 12-1-38-3 and Phil Smith made the important break through removing Cookham's dangerous No 4 with a ball that came back. Cookham Dean scored 263 in their 52 overs
Eastcote needed to go at 5.5 an over but were slowed down when Paul Manley and James Mans were removed reasonably early. The score was 33 for 2 off 6.3. Tony Norris and Mo Saley steadied the ship and batted very well in deed. Batting is all about partnerships and these two lads produced a tremendous partnership of 138 before Mo Saley was caught for 66. The score was 171 for 3 off 29 overs - at 5.85 an over just in front of the asking rate. Barry white joined the impressive Tony Norris and these two added a good 25 before Barry white was adjudged LBW for 11. 195 for 4 off 37.5 overs. Skipper Geoff Roan joined Tony Norris with 69 required off 61 balls. These two added 39 in good time when Tony Norris was out LBW scoring a classy 105. 235 for 5 off 43.2 overs. Chris Thom promoted up the order joined the skipper needing 29 off 28 balls. Skipper Geoff Roan and Chris Thom accepted the challenge and won the game in the 47th over with 9 balls to spare. This was made possible by 2 4s from Chris Thom(12 no) and a 'majestic six' from the skipper (22 no)!!!
