Chesham v Eastcote CC U11A on Thu 02 Jun 2011 at 10.30am
Eastcote CC Won by 5 wickets

Match report Eastcote U11 travelled to Chesham to face their U11's. Even before the game started Eastcote knew this would be one of their toughest games of the season as Chesham have 4 Bucks County boys and a County U13 girl in their side.

Chesham won the toss and elected to bat first but found Jono Barry and new opening bowler Ashane too hot to handle, the 1st wicket falling in only the 2nd over of the game. The first 6 overs only yielded 3 runs, even more impressive when you bear in mind that their first 3 batsman were all county boys. Alfie Fuller came on first change bowling left arm leggies and picked up 3 wickets in his first two overs with a couple of catches by Ashane at square leg. At 12 overs we had a quick drink and changed keepers, Ashane replacing Thomas Hudson, with their score at 22 for 4. However the drinks did not bring us any luck or wickets, the 5th wicket putting on 48 runs, the majority scored by no. 3 M Aslam who retired on 43. The coaches had previously agreed that batsman would retire on 40 and bowlers bowl a maximum of 4 overs. Jonathan Phillips, Divyam Arya, 9 year old Khizer Khan and Saavan Shah all bowled 3 eonomical overs each. Special mention to Khizer who only gave away 5 runs in his 3 overs. Chesham finished on 72 for 5 off their 25 overs.

It was Eastcote's turn to bat and the Chesham opening bowlers were just as economical as we had been with the first 3 bowlers all County boys. After 3 maidens in a row the pressure built on our openers and Thomas Hudson was caught behind trying to pull a ball on off stump. Nikhil Shah hit a couple of 4's to relieve the pressure but was soon bowled, again trying to pull a ball that hit the top of the stumps. Amaan Lakhani and Kush Thakrar tried to steady the ship but found Chesham's bowlers were better than what we have faced all season with Amaan getting bowled just before drinks with the score at 25 for 3. At this point the game was very even, Eastcote coach Dipen had to tell his team that the only way to relieve the pressure against such good bowling was to take their singles and rotate the strike. Unfortunately Kush went for a big pull shot straight after drinks and was bowled leg stumped as he had shuffled across his stumps. Ashane and Saavan tried to build a partnership to take us towards our target of 73 but with the score on 38 Ashane was stumped off a ball that bounced twice and was quite wide of off stump, great work by their wicket keeper. Under pressure and having lost the team's leading run scorer heads started to slump. Saavan and Jono had other ideas though as they took quick singles, defended resolutely making sure they moved their feet to the ball and put the bad ball to the boundary. Where as, early on most balls were played and missed at both these batsman put the pressure back on the fielders with their running between the wickets. The opening bowlers were brought back on to try and get a wicket but it was not to be as Jono hit the winning 4 much to the joy of the Eastcote team.
A mention to the Chesham coach Charlie Melasis who organised the match and to the Chesham parent who donated the match balls which were presented to the Man of the Match from either side. Chesham MOM was M Aslam for his 43, Eastcote's MOM was given to Saavan for his 21 not out under pressure made of only 23 balls when the run rate had gone up from the initial just under 3 an over to over 5 runs an over. Alfie was also in the running for the MOM award for his 3 wickets.
