Sheen Park v Eastcote CC U11A on Sun 14 Aug 2011 at 1:30pm
Eastcote CC Won by 4 wickets

Match report The U11 County Cup final was held on the same day as the London to Surrey Cycle Classic Road Race in preparation for the London 2012 Olympics. This meant a number of road closures and diversions around Teddington CC where the final was being held. We decided to get to the ground early to allow for the road closures and predicted traffic chaos. In reality we had no problems getting there, with Hemal blagging his way through some road closures.

After some warm ups the boys had lunch and then did a bit of bowling and batting in the nets.

Without U11 Middlesex County boys, who were away at the Taunton Festival, both sides were missing a couple of regulars. Sheen Park won the toss and decided to bat first. Sheen Park had A Nazir (Middlesex U12, playing a year above for the County whilst still a 11 yr old) and H Howeld (Surrey U11) so started as slight favourites, having won the Cup the previous year.

Eastcote opening bowlers Divyam Arya and Jonathan Phillips picked up wickets in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th overs leaving Sheen Park on 14 for 3 after 4 overs, with 10 off those runs coming in wides. This brought Sheen Park's 2 County players at the crease who took the score on to 38 for 3 after 10, 20 off those coming in wides. Alfie Fuller and Zeshaan Mahmood bowled 6 overs of spin between them before a double bowling change of Saavan Shah and Nikhil Shah saw a flurry of wickets fall and the run rate dramatically reduced. A Nazir was caught of a long hop and H Howeld was well held by Zeeshan, a couple of run outs and Sheen Park had been reduced to 74 for 8 having been 60 for 3 just a few overs earlier.
Kush Thakrar and Amaan Lakahani and bowled the last few overs and Sheen Park were bowled out for 76 off 24.5 overs out of a maximum 35 available. 12th man Aryan Mamtora deputising in the field to give boys a break for a few overs.

As tea was not ready, Eastcote were asked to bat for 10 overs before the break. Hemal's instructions to the openers Thomas and Akshay was not to lose any wickets before the break, the run rate did not matter too much. We started well with 22 runs scored off the first 5 overs before we also lost 3 wickets in 3 overs and went into tea 28 for 3 off 10. Sheen Park 2 County spinners already had a wicket each and were very difficult to score from. Straight after tea we lost Amaan, backing away to cut a straight bowl only to see the stumps knocked over. Saavan and Ross steadied the ship a little, taking the score to 50 before Saavan was bowled trying to hit a full toss accross the line. Zeeshan batted very steadily and accumulated runs in partnership with Ross and with 4 needed Ross was caught at point. Zeeshan held his nerve hitting the winning 4 in the 21st overs to much joy and cheering from the Eastcote Players and supporters.

The County Cup, Shields and medals were presented to the players and Umpires.

Our thanks to Tony Ward, Teddington CC and the Umpires for putting the game on for us.
