There was doubt over whether this fixture would go ahead due to the continuing heavy rain, but a brief respite and coorporation of ground staff enabled the match to be played on the astro at HSM.

Eastcote travelled to HSM for what would be their first match of the season, and a below par and lack lustre performance saw them loose narrowly to HSM by 6 runs.

The match was reduced to 16 overs. HSM won the toss and chose to bat first and the two openers took full advantage of some in disciplined and wayward bowling, and a small boundary, to rack up an opening stand of 102 runs with Andrew Thomas scoring a fine 71.

Eastcote began well in the chase with the openers putting on 23 runs for the first wicket. Despite losing Aaran Amin and Rahul Wijeratne for 7 & 7 respectively, Omar Mohamed (41) and Ashane Wijesuriya (18) were able to keep runs flowing and maintain the required run rate. The match was there for the taking but a quick flurry of wickets around the 12th over when the score was on 88 saw Eastcote hand the initiative back to HSM from which they failed to recover, but a fine debut performance by Hemanshu Hirani (8) with a might six over long on almost pulled it back had he not been given run out in the penultimate over.

The result leaves Eastcote requiring to win all their remaining matches including the return fixture against HSM to secure top spot. Still all to play for!
