OMT v Eastcote CC U13A on Fri 25 May 2012 at 6:00 PM
Eastcote CC Won by 9 wickets

Match report League - Eastcote won by 9 wickets.
OMT – 84 (17.4 overs)
Eastcote – 85 for 1 (13.1)

As the sun continued to shine Eastcote went through the gears to notch up another satisfying win by 9 wickets.

Availability, whilst looking reasonably good at the beginning of the week became a real issue on the day as 6 boys had made themselves unavailable for selection, and a further three were involved in a school match some distance away from Northwood, leaving still one short to make up the full 11. The 11th position was filled in by stand in sub Rishi Wijeratne from the under 11s who was able to step in at the last minute to complete the team.

Eastcote travelled to OMTs newly laid ground and fast outfield at Merchant Taylor’s School.

OMTs won the toss and chose to bat first but realising Eastcote were to take the field with 8 players made a generous offer for Eastcote to bat first instead. The actions of the OMT captain was duly commended but in upholding the spirit of the game, Eastcote chose instead to honour the outcome of the toss and took the field with three OMT players filling in for the absent Eastcote players.

Despite some fast and accurate bowling from Hemanshu Hirani (3 for 6) the OMT openers were able to get off to a good start by punishing some short and wide deliveries from JB (2 for 28) to race to 30 off 3 overs with Sahil Shah (18) taking a particular liking to JB, by driving him through the covers on several occasions, but then with the introduction of George Wickham (1 for 7) and Amaan Lakhani (2 for 16) Eastcote were able to stem the flow of runs to bowl OMT out for 84 in 17.4 overs. Although Eastcote fielded well and three catches were taken by JB including a caught and bowled, boys are aware that there performance leaves much to be desired.

The late arrival of players and a chasing a low first innings score enabled the batting order to be tweaked and to provide others with the opportunity to bat higher up the order.

Hemanshu Hirani (53 no) and Amman Lakhani (2) opened the batting and put on a partnership of 40 runs. Both batsmen took a little time to adjust to the conditions and pace but once they had settled in, runs were more freely flowing with Hemanshu particular aggressive and favouring anything on the offside with piecing cuts and drives for 4. At the fall of the first wicket, Hemanshu was joined by Ashane Wijesuriya (12 no) and the pair took the score past 84 to register another comfortable win.
