Hayes v Eastcote CC U13B on Tue 18 Jun 2013 at 6pm
Eastcote CC Won by 101 runs

Match report Eastcote B travelled to Hayes on a very muggy Tuesday evening. Hayes were an unknown quantity, as our home match with them earlier in the season had been rained off.

Eastcote skipper Aqib won the toss and elected to bat. The regular batsmen were placed down the order to give some others a chance. Jonathan and Sam volunteered to open. They started very positively, putting any bad balls away. They put on 15, before Jonathan was caught in the 3rd over. This brought in Aryan. Unfortunately, a misunderstanding between the two caused Sam to be run out. Aryan was bowled soon after and Eastcote were wobbling at 30 for 3 after 8 overs.

Thomas was promoted up the order to put some runs on the board. He did this in his usual unassuming style; 40 in 11 balls, before being given out lbw. Sanka at the other end was playing very sensibly and was joined by Chris. They put on 48 for the 5th wicket, with a flurry of fours from Sanka and some excellent calling and running from Chris. Unfortunately, having applauded Sanka's fifty, the scorer realised that 43 + 4 = 47 not 50!! This seemed to stop Sanka in his tracks and he was bowled in the last over, but should still be congratulated for an excellent innings. Eastcote finished on a decent score of 140 for 5.

Eastcote took to the field and opened with Daniel and Vinosh. Both bowled with good pace and accuracy, and after 4 overs Hayes were reeling at 12 for 3, Daniel with 1 for 4 and Vinosh 2 for 8. Harrison had persuaded Thomas to let him keep wicket, which he did with extreme bravery, using any part of his body to stop the ball getting past, he even used his head to stop one delivery!!

Next on was Sam, who took 2 wickets on the last 2 balls of his over, buying himself another over. Before this, skipper Aqib led by example bowling a wicket maiden. For some reason, only known to himself, Sam decided to become a pace bowler for his hat-trick ball, and almost inevitably the ball went wide and the chance gone!

Varun bowled tidily and after 2 run outs, Chris took 2 wickets to finish off Hayes. Their score ended on 39 all out after 11 overs. Unfortunately, this meant that everyone didn't get to bowl their allotted overs and we were denied the very rare event of Thomas' unplayable spin/pace bowling!

Aqib led the side well, and the boys were very loud and enthusiastic in the field, with some excellent fielding, throwing and catching. Two things to work on: better accuracy on bowling is still needed, particularly to left-handers, 19 wides were bowled shared amongst everyone. Second thing is a basic understanding of the lbw rule, some of the appealing was embarrassing!
