Harefield U12 v Eastcote CC U13B on Wed 08 May 2013 at 6pm
Eastcote CC Won By 9 wickets
Match report
This was the first of our five U12 Alliance games this year, and we started with a win! The boys travelled to a slightly chilly Harefield to play the fixture, and it was apparent from the start that we were probably going to be a bit stronger than our opposition. The team was lead by Shyam and Daniel, who both took on their roles superbly. The two worked well together, and, for the most part got the fielding positions bang on. As with the league side there are a few tweaks required in the field but their general knowledge of what should be happening was good.
We opened the bowling with Kabir and Alex on a very bouncy astro surface. Shyam could regularly be heard shouting "let them smell the leather" and rough him up Kabs" as the balls flew past the batsmens ears! The two Harefield openers however attacked from the start and got off to a decent start. Kabir finally struck in the fourth over with a surprisingly full delivery which was lofted high to Vinosh for a superbly taken catch. Harrison then came on and bowled his newly developed off spin. He clearly wants to follow in his fathers footsteps (who was quite simply a fantastic cricketer in his day), and just like his dad he bowled two wides in his first over! He did however pick up the 2nd wicket with a very well flighted delivery which was again lofted high to Vinosh for another superbly taken catch. I think his new nickname will be Safehands! The wickets then began to fall regularly, with Zaki and Dhanesh both picking one up and a run out also.
Harefield finished on 85-6 off 20 overs.
Our opening batting pair of Vinosh and Varun was an extremely solid one, and to be honest they did not look in trouble at all, apart from the 10 minute monsoon that occured! Daniel's mum was heard to say "I got two trains, three buses and hitched a lift to get here and sit in the rain, I'm not happy"! Our assistant coach Jag was doing a very good impression of a Sri Lankan Superman with his brown blanket round his shoulders! The two boys out in the middle however set about their task well, and their running between the wickets was good, they played straight to the straight deliveries, and worked the bad balls for runs. They put on an opening partnership of 64 off 10 overs before being retired. Vinosh finished on an unbeaten 31 and Varun an unbeaten 16. This brought Daniel and Shyam to the crease in very hard conditions, cold, wet, and dark! Unfortunately Shyam fell quickly to a good delivery and was bowled, but Daniel looked solid at the other end. The tall, lean figure of Kabir came striding to the crease, and had decided that enough was enough! Within a few blows the game was over, and the tall lean figure of Kabir came striding back again. Daniel looked a bit confused as to what had just happened and was heard saying to his dad "I don't understand, Marc said we had to play straight and Kabir just smashed it".
Always listen to the coach Daniel, he know's best!!!!!
The game finished after 12 overs of the Eastcote innings and the boys won by 9 wickets. An excellent all round effort, well done.
If anybody saw the scorch marks across the field and out of the car park, don't panic, it was just Chris and his dad racing to get back for the 2nd half of the Chelsea match...........you could of let Chris take his helmet and pads off first though dad!
A very big thank you to all the parents who came to support the boys, especially to Jayesh for scoring (a very cold job) and to Jag and Simon for umpiring, much appreciated!
