Match report Chess Valley League Div 2 ... Game 5.

ECC lost a high scoring 30 over game (delay due overnight rain) by 91 runs. 587 runs scored in the day off 60 overs at almost 10 an over.

An ex Sri Lankan Test player (Maduka Liyanapathiranage) hit a superb double hundred as our young team battled manfully in the field but they rattled up 339/5 off 30 overs. Our best bowler Shaariq Sheikh battled an upset stomach to bowl two 3-over spells including the death and finish with 6-0-47-3. Super young Arav Oodit made his adult debut and bowled a brilliant 4 overs of seam at the death to Maduka.

Luke Kirsten (76 off 56 balls) led a superb run chase (we needed 340 to win off 40 overs in a truncated game due to overnight rain)...and were 106/4 (10 overs), 135/5 (15 overs) and 174/5 (20 overs). However the Test player Maduka came on to bowl a superb death spell too (5-2-16-1) to kill us off. We took on the run chase at over 11 an over though ... quite well ... and Imaad Mansoor kept us in the mix later with a hard hitting 33 batting at 8. Jolan Baxter hit some great shots as opener (31 off 21 balls) and Akhil Sofat looked promising... batting as only he can ...but was caught at long-on for 26 (18 balls) due to run rate pressure.
