Eastcote CC Sunday 1st Team v Watford Town on Sun 28 Jul 2019 at 1pm
Eastcote CC Won by 178 runs (with 23.3 overs to spare)....CVL Game 3

Match report Super Crushing Win in 3rd CVL game...(Total 6 CVL to be played - instead of 7 - due to 1 team pulling out mid-league). Played 3 won 3 sounds real good. Top of the table and this 3rd win was a crushing win (controlled aggression with bat and ball from start to finish) after two hard-fought initial wins. Now the boys are beginning to believe we will win the league and get back in the top flight.

ECC rattled up 267 for 8 off their allotted 45 overs and then bolwed Watford Town out for 87 in just 21.3 overs.

Batting top performances by Tom Hudson 77, Amaan Lakhani 58, Akhil Sofat 51, Rohan Hirani 23 not out (off just 12 balls).

Bowling Rohit Venkateshan 5.3-1-25-6, Pranav Bhatia 5-2-10-2 and Jazib Naeem 7-0-28-2. Fielding Rashard Fuller 3 flying catches and Saavan Shah 1.

MATCH REPORT:

Watford won the toss and put us in on a responsive pitch but overlooked the small matter of Hudson-Fuller who put on 68 for the first wicket. Super talented southpaw Amaan Lakahani anchored the innings at one-drop (for a superb 58 throwing his wicket away for the team at the end to accelerate, after making us safe). Tom Hudson who threatens to score a dozen tons this season blasted 77 and finished Watford Town mentally with his onslaught. Jazib fell cheaply (first failure this season) but Akhil Sofat at five hit a sedate 51, again sacrificing his wicket for team acceleration at the end. 116/2, 119/3 then 211/4; Eastcote powered to 267 for 8 after being 234/4 (on 41 overs); showing a positive steel to their batting and a desire to get on top and stay there. It was a good score on a slow low track with a bit of uneven bounce.

Jazib Naeem and Pranav Bhatia's new ball attack and an aggressive no-gap slip/point cordon of 5 to 6; with Rashard Fuller puilling off 3 flying catches (2 of them world class) in half an hour; meant Watford Twonslumped to 40/4 with the new ball spell. Then Destroyer Rohit Venkateshan turned it a mile and attacked the legs with great field placings and also bowled subtle changes of angle and flight to rip out the other 6 wickets ably supported by Saavan Shah. The two offies choked Watford out for 89 off just 21.3 overs. An empthatic Sunday League win taking us to the top of Division 2 with our third win in three. Jazib swinging 7-0-28-2. Pranav accurate 5-2-10-2. Rohit destructive 5.3-1-25-6. Saavan sedate 4-0-16-0. The lads were totally focused evey ball whilst batting and every ball in the field. They were determined to kill the game after working hard to get on top. Controlled positive agression from ball one to last resulted in a 178 run league win against essentially Watford Saturday Ones....Everyone worked like clock-work. Such a team needs no captain.

ADDITIONAL MATCH REPORT:

That was a rude awakening with our proud all-win record gone. Next up was a crucial third League Game vs Watford Town. We lost the toss and (since the pitch was damp) Watford Town put us in to bat. Cometh the hour and cometh the colts. U-19 Hudson got 77 after Fuller went for 19 and one-drop u-17 Amaan Lakhani played a superb pro knock in difficult conditions, eschewing his natural stroke play to compile a superb 58 and stay almost till the end, picking the hugely talented u-15 Akhil Sofat for company, after Jazib went for just 2. The two (left and right combo) took us to 211 (38th over) before Amaan sacrificed his wicket in the quest of quick runs, trying to maximize the death overs. GSG couldn’t get going but the match middle order batter (Rohan Hirani) smashed a quick fire unbeaten 23 to get us to 267/8. Akhil made 58 and Amaan 51. Rashard Fuller then pulled off 3 early stunning slip catches (to neutralize the fact that the pitch had plateaued out) and the opening new ball pair of Jazib Naeem (7-0-28-2)and u-14 Pranav Bhatia (5-2-10-2) sent Watford Town spinning to 50 for 4. I have seen one world class slip catch in a game but never two-and-a-half in a game and that too so early. Salutations Rashard!! Rohit Venkateshan and Saavan Shah then took over and Rohit experimented and attacked whilst Saavan made it difficult to get a run. Rohit ended with all the next 6 wickets for a superb analysis of 5.3-1-25-6 to Saavan’s 4-0-16-0. Watford Town were bowled out for 89. Game over! Job Done! Victors by 178 runs with 23.3 overs to spare. Now the league title seemed to be inching closer and it was important we won a crucial league game so convincingly to obliterate the after effects of the earlier defeat. Had we had our blip? Not quite. We almost lost 2 games in a row next up.
