Eastcote CC Other Matches v Ealing 3 Bridges 1st Team on Wed 28 Jun 2023 at 6 pm
Eastcote CC Won By 5 wickets (with 39 balls to spare).

Match report Good shock and awe win for Eastcote CC built on a solid bowling and fielding performance and then some amazing Baz ball type power hitting in the decider of the 3-match T20 vs Ealing 3 Bridges (an MCCL div 5 first team).

E3B won the toss and batted as Sam Moody set out a 30 yard circle to follow strict powerplay rules (6 overs of P1 with only 2 outside the circle and the remaining 16 overs with 4 inside the circle). Legside wides and front-foot no-ball free-hits. P1 was bowled (3 overs each) by u14 Kesavan Gunaseelan (car park end) and o60 Arvind Joshi (Case end). Kesavan was steady with a short leg side boundary and AJ looked to get the top batters out and accounted for the opener caught at deepish gully by Shubham Samant (team over 2) and the left handed one-drop skier to extra cover taken well by u14 Sambhav Thottungal (team over 4). The other opener played a blazing knock of 74 before Arvind took him out in team over 12. Deepak Panwar replaced Kesavan after P1 and bowled decently for team overs 7 9 11 & 13; snaring a wicket (tumbling two handed diving catch by Zac Waterman at squareleg). Left-arm u14 quick Sambhav Thottungal replaced AJ and bowled team overs 8 & 10 (clean bowling their number 5 with sheer pace); then Aj came back for team over 12 to get out their top scorer in a midway gamble to take out the blazing gun. Sohan Desai precision placed at widish second long on holding a safe catch; to put Eastcote firmly in control. Sambhav then came back to get another wicket courtesy a brilliant leaping catch by Sohan Desai at mid on and bowled team overs 14 & 16. Arvind in the meantime ran out a bloke with a direct underarm throw at one stump from extra cover in Deepak's last over to keep emphasizing the importance of good tight fielding, which ECC did very well. Umair Islam replaced Deepak at the other end for two steady overs 15 & 17, snicking a bloke off to keeper Suvin Mekwan (smart catch); before Kesavan replacing Sambhav at the Case end for over 18 got two quick wickets caught Suvin to have E3B bowled out for 146 off 17.3 overs in a great wicket-taking show by ECC. Kesavan 3.3-0-33-2, Arvind 4-0-32-3, Deepak 4-0-47-1, Sambhav 4-0-30-2 & Umair 2-0-15-1 shared the spoils in a team bowling show. The score was par on a decent Chris Ede batting track and a short boundary by the scorebox side.

ECC opened up with the ageless Will Bramble (approaching 65) and the considerably younger Suvin Mekwan in a left-right combo. Suvin decided to murder the bowling and Will (6) gave him the strike and hit a crisp midwicket drive for 4.ECC were 34/0 after 2 overs and 55/0 after 4 overs as Suvin opened up like Adam Gilchrist in his pomp. This amazing run rate put us firmly ahead and made the game ours to lose despite a slightly understaffed batting line-up. Will then fell at 56 but in strode Shubham Samant with a beard and girth trying to compete with WG Grace's. He also batted like the good doc first giving Suvin great support and pulling out some big shots to keep the pressure off Suvin and then finishing the job with a power innings. Suvin fell at 89 at the start of the 8th over for a superb 64 (14 fours & 1 six) out bowled on a big hit, first mistake and missing a T20 ton which is a rarity. Shubham made a superb 48 not out (5 fours & 3 sixes) taking us home in the 14th over with a four and 2 huge straight sixes high over the sightscreen into the trees off the first three balls. Shubham kept us well in control despite losing Agastya (caught on the fence for 10), Sohan Desai (4) and Zac Waterman (5) at regular intervals. Kesavan joined him at number 7 to ensure no dramas and an emphatic 5 wicket win with 6.3 overs to spare. Our scoring rate was 11.11 runs per over as we finished on 150 for 5 off 13.5 overs to close a proper T20 performance in all 4 disciplines.
