Match report Unable to repeat the success of last of week against Harrow St Mary, Eastcote conceded a narrow loss by 15 runs. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Eastcote captain Pelin Bedri took command of the field and rallied her team at every opportunity. Shae Behzadi opened the bowling, followed by Pelin. No sooner than Shae started the third over, HSM opener R Bhandari was trudging back to the changing rooms with a clean delivery from the young Middlesex County player. Harrow St Mary then settled into a comfortable scoring pattern, until it was disturbed by Eastcote spin bowler Aryan Modi, who take a brilliant there-and-back caught and bowled, dismissing P Alagiya in the process. The next six overs were full of twists and turns as the rest of the spin bowling cadre, comprised of Svanik Chadha, Paras Singh, and Aditya Bhandari, challenged the opposition, but were unable to fell anymore wickets. A single-over performance by Parry Kumaran couldn’t come sooner as he bowled O Jobanputra, ending a partnership that had netted almost 50 runs. His replacement, T Shah helped take the score over the 100 mark, until she was run out in the final over of the innings by wicketkeeper Riyan Malcolm. T Karamchandani made a brief appearance for the last few balls, but HSM captain A Gupta stole the show as opening batter not out for the full 86 minute innings, scoring 53 runs in the process.
Eastcote openers Nikhil Kochhar and Riyan Malcolm stepped onto the pitch chasing 129 runs, and made excellent progress during the first three overs. S Chohan soon brought the scoring streak to an end, after Nikhil sent a ball up and into the waiting hands of R Bhandari. Riyan was soon joined by Parry Kumaran, with the pair continuing a steady performance for the next seven overs. At the start of the eleventh over, Riyan suffered a runout defeat by G Singh. G Patel’s over was to claim another victim in Rohan Karia who was bowled for a duck. By the end of the 14th over, Jayleen Toor was also relieved of batting duties with a clean delivery by P Alagiya. Aditya Bhandari was next in to bat, but at this late stage in the game struggled to rotate the strike and was retired (not-out) to allow the remaining batters an attempt to catch the score. Aryan Modi joined the fray as Eastcote hit 100 runs with only 18 balls to come. G Singh bowled Parry soon thereafter, and Aryan was runout in the following over, by R Bhandari (assisted by wicketkeeper O Jobanputra). Shae Behzadi’s wicket fell in the last over of the game, with a loopy ball from G Singh. Eastcote innings closed out by Paras Singh and Svanik Chadha, unable to reach Harrow St. Mary’s score, attaining only 114 runs on this second of three matchups.
Week by week, Eastcote U11B have been gaining strength in their field presence. Similar growth in batting performance will elevate their chances of ongoing success.
