London Shabab CC v Eastcote CC Saturday 5th team on Sat 17 Aug 2019 at 11:30 am
Eastcote CC Lost By 6 wickets (with 22.5 overs to spare)

Match report REPORT OF SATURDAY VTH TEAM FIXTURE VS LONDON SHABAB ONES AT SWYNCOMBE AVE, BOSTON MANOR (AWAY) ON SAT 17 AUGUST 2019:

Strong opp, won the toss and put our team comprising Joban, Jazib, myself and colts in on a damp difficult uncovered wicket, and bowled superb full length and on the stumps, to skittle us out for 96 in 28 overs of a 40-over game. Purav Garg opened the batting on adult debut and showed promise. Rohan Hirani at 3 looked good but fell early and Jazib Naeem stroked a superb 21 looking like he was batting on another track, but got out to his first timing error. Krish Thakrar also on adult debut at 6 had a torrid baptism and Krish Patwal at 5 looked good until he got out. Joban (21) and Vikesh (13) batted very sensibly to put on 24 for the 8th wicket and then Arav Oodit (11) batted well at 10 until he got runout, leaving a defiant Rohan Shah not out in his first Satruday adult game.

Our new ball pair of Jazib and Aarav tried hard but we floored chances and had close calls for LBW rejected. Jazib swung it both ways at pace and Arav bowled a superb line and length to his strengths and thought out a wicket; having their opener caught by Vikesh at fly slip and then Vikesh got 3 wickets with his first 8 deliveries, replacing Arav; to create some aritifical excitement. 64 for 4 was as far as we got however, as a vastly superior team then powered home; giving Rohan Shah a torrid time in his first over. However, Rohan had to be commended for taking on a good batter preferring to bowl into the wind to his strngth of light and guile (even if it meant they were hitting with the wind to the shorter boundary). Such confidence in his own bowling is commendable for a yound u13 leggie. Krish Thakrar kept superbly on debut. Vikesh 2.2-0-12-3 was our best performer.

ADDITIONAL MATCH REPORT:

One can only go down after such a high and we crashed the next Saturday to a very strong Asian outfit called London Shababs. Our team was not as strong as the previous week (although we still had Jazib Naeem and Krish Patwal in terms of top players). Sir Joban Singh joined us as a third top player, erstwhile anyways. Rohan Hirani also staked a claim. We won the toss and batted and were 3/2, 16/3 and 41/7 before crawling to 96 all out off 28 overs (40 overs a side fixture). Jazib Naeem made 21 batting at four; and only the mighty stroke player Joban Singh (21 at number 8), Vikesh Patel (13 at number 9) and Arav Oodit (11 at number 10) ensured that we almost got to three figures. Jazib was elegance personified, Joban alternated between deference and defiance, Vikesh tried to prove a point to his dad MInesh (who kindly agreed to coach and umpire) and Arav Oodit batted with panache and ran like one of his idols at ECC. What happened next however, showed what Eastcote is all about. Jazib Naeem and Arav Oodit bowled a superb new ball spell. Arav kept it quiet and Jazib attacked with menace and venom; some snicks didn’t go to hand, some were floored including some possible close in chances in front of the wicket as Jaz bowled to a 6 man cordon with two close catchers in front, as only he can. The support in the field was not the same as the week before and the batters were better. London Shababs gradually eased away to win by 6 wickets, with just over 20 overs to spare; but not before Vikesh Patel proved another point to Papa Minesh (who umpired both ends) by taking three wickets with his first 9 balls, to create some artificial excitement. What impressed was that our young colts believed they would win and gave it everything rather than just go through the motions. I have my own theory and prefer to punch above one’s weight with a young side. That way one improves quickly and realizes how much above one’s potential one can play; and the wins have more meaning. Colts: opening bat Purab Garg & keeper Krish Thakrar made their adult debuts and it was leggie Rohan Shah’s second adult Saturday game after the week before.
