Stanmore 'B' v Eastcote CC U11B on Mon 13 May 2024 at 18:00
Eastcote CC Lost by 41 runs
Match report
The first full match of the season proved to be a challenging affair for Eastcote, conceding a loss by 41 runs. Exams week diminished the U11B team, the remaining of whom were supported by four members of the U10 cadre, whose attendance and efforts were very much appreciated. Winning the toss, Stanmore captain Arjun Shah elected to bat first, handing control of the field to Eastcote premier Svanik Chadha. Bowling was opened by Shae Behzadi, Nikhil Kochhar, and Anagha Matada, who managed to keep the runs down and dismiss captain Arjun Shah with brilliant direct hit by Hugo Whittaker. Two balls later, J Lewin was bowled for a duck by Shae, and not longer after that a snick off Nikhil's delivery landed safely in the gloves of keeper Riyan Malcolm, sending opener Aran Shah back to the clubhouse. Guest player Luis Gandhi made quick work of I Kandaiah, with a perfect off stump ball. Next to go was D Vekaria after a skyward bound shot from Yusuf Merali's over took a nosedive towards Svanik, who managed to secure the catch between his legs after it slipped through his fingers! Yusuf closed out his over with a plum LBW on K Malde, although Stanmore had crept up to 66 runs by this point. Later in the match, Stanmore power hitter S Hassan was at long last dismissed by Nikhil with a laser guided run out from near the rear boundary. Shae claimed her second victim of the day with a middle stump grenade to relieve A Big of batting duties. After some confusion on an LBW appeal, Parry Kumaran snuck in a cheeky stumping against K Agaja, but that would be final Stanmore wicket to fall, and not before reaching 107 runs. Som coy batting during the final over pushed the target to 115 runs, with a healthy field performance by Eastcote.
Unfortunately, Stanmore's fielding side was equally matched, but complimented by a stellar bowling performance. Svanik opened the innings with Parry, both of whom were dismissed in the first over and with zero runs on the board; Svanik bowled by K Malde, and Parry run out by D Vekaria on the very next ball. Riyan was next to go as A Elliot took a catch off of a lofty shot from S Hassan's delivery. By the end of the third over, K Malde had claimed two more clean wickets, sending Yusuf and Shae off the pitch for a second maiden over, and Eastcote sitting at a worrying 7 runs after 5 wickets. Nikhil and Anagha made slow but steady progress, stealing singles and a couple of boundaries, including a wonderful 6 that narrowly missed a parked car! Nikhil was eventually run out by A Vig, after which Anagha started a new partnership with Luis. Run rate stalled for a couple of overs before Anagha was dismissed by spin-bowler A Vig. Guest player Avyukt Sridhar came next and helped push the Eastcote score into the 70s, but was skilfully stumped by keeper and captain Arjun Shah. Khyan Patel was next in, but quickly succumbed to A Vig before the end of the over. Hugo Whittaker brought some much needed energy onto the pitch, but an erroneous flick of Luis' wrist sent the ball up and back down into bowler J Lewin's waiting grasp. 74 all out at the start of the 18th over.
A disappointing loss, but a valuable lesson in teamwork and fielding.
