Club Survey

10 Jun 2020

Our club survey was completed in February. Thank you for all those that contributed to it. A lot has happened in the world since then, which meant reviewing the survey took a back seat. We have now done so by using video conferencing. Although we reviewed all the answers provided, we cannot deal with everything in one go. Therefore, we have initially focused on your answers in three areas:

  • Communication
  • Facilities
  • General views on the club

Communication

Although there wasn’t a specific question on this, it did come up in a lot of the answers. As with all areas of the survey there were many positive comments, however our communication could be considerably better.

In respect of social media, we currently have 3 Facebook pages. One of these is for members only (and do all please apply to join this group), but the other two are for the wider public and nobody seems to know why we have two of these. We do have a Twitter account although it is not widely used. Our website could be more current and informative. We do not publicise all our events well either by email or the other channels.

We would therefore like to find within our membership a social media champion and we are asking for volunteers. This may be ideal for one of our younger members who could then include the role on their CV. Please reply to this email if you are interested.

Facilities

Lots of ideas were put forward on this. In the present climate in which our future financial position is uncertain, there is no intention at present to make any substantial investments in this financial year which ends at the end of September. However, what we are now working on is a 3-5 year development plan for capital projects which will happen if finances permit. We are prioritising these at present and expect to be able to release some further updates shortly.

General views of the club

We had some fantastic replies including “great club”, “the club is a fantastic place for everyone to enjoy and embrace community spirit”, “keep being excellent”. But there were also comments about the club not always being welcoming. Some of these were not clear if it was to do with the facilities, which we will deal with in the above section, or other areas. Our thoughts are therefore that, when the regulations allow, we will introduce the following:

  • At our beginning of season colts’ evening in 2021 (which we were unable to hold this year) we will  extend the content to include more info on the club, meet committee members etc
  • The formation of a colts’ parent group, to organise social events, which would ideally embrace all the colt groups. This may need some involvement from committee or established members, but we would like the new group to come up with new ideas. If you are interested to join, please reply to this email
  • Some regular events in the season for all members or occasionally just colt members. Perhaps on 3rd Saturday or Wednesday every month. These will not necessarily need to be big, but something that people can put in their diaries.
  • In the pre-season week before cricket starts, we want to have an activity to involve players from all senior teams, including those colts who will be playing senior cricket
  • For new social members we will host a welcome meeting with 2 or 3 committee, or senior, members. We used to hold these and they worked well.
  • Update and reinstate our club brochure for new members

We will continue to look at other areas of the survey and feedback to members.
