Ealing 3 Bridges 1st Team v Eastcote CC Other Matches on Wed 24 May 2023 at 6 pm
Eastcote CC Won By 4 runs

Match report AMAZING T20 THRILLER 6:10 PM START FOLLOWED BY A SUMPTUOUS DINNER AT THE HARROW RECREATION GROUND (THE HOME OF EALING 3 BRIDGES):

Eastcote won the toss and batted with Suvin Mekwan striking two early fours and getting a leading edge. Rahul hit a 4 and got out cheaply trying to utilise the powerplay and Anmol hit two huge straight sixes then swung across the line: powerplay blues. In strode the colossus Jazib Naeem (there is only one of him). The powerplay hitting (as per the plan) had put us in a decent position run rate wise (46/2 in the first 5 overs). The outfield was slow and the initial bounce was high, the ball stopping and popping. Jazib dug in initially (to try and take the game deep like Mr Dhoni) and Ravi dug in even more leaving Mr Bahl (better known as Shanaya's dad) worrying how many balls he would get at number 6. They were Ealing and Jazib then started to do the Healing. Prompting Ravi to open up too: Jazib then took the game to a different level of huge sixes hit cleanly with a very still head and deadly focus. Ravi was now running manfully sounding like an outdated steam engine and fast running out of oxygen but he smote two fours late on to repair his strike rate. Mr Bahl (with a few dots and one boundary kept Jazib company. Jazib went on the rampage and fell to the penultimate ball for a classy 79 (One of the best T20 knocks I have ever seen) with 6 huge sixes, 4 fours and several very well run twos. His calling of runs was as good as his striking as he played a classy one day knock with very few dot ball in the latter part of his innings.
His strike sequence of: 1211241116111141411226266626214 tells the story.

158 to defend was not going to be easy since the wicket had levelled out and they were used to the ground and the conditions (hosts' advantage). The team talk said bowl simple one-side of the wicket and avoid bowling too full or two short and definitely no no balls (due free hits).Dom (29 runs off 3 overs) was quick but a bit wayward and Jazib a bit tired so didn't strike but sent down his 3 powerplay overs for just 19. However E3B raced to 60 for none of their powerplay 6 overs (3 each), Ravi then came on to slow things down a bit from Dom's end and Arvind replaced Jazib and struck taking out the big hitting opener clean bowled with ball 3 and the one-drop next ball lifting a drive to Jazib who had placed himself strategically 20 yards inside the long on fence. Arvind also bowled the other opener with an inswing on his 10th ball (3 wickets for 9) so E3B were now quickly 3 down and pegged to 80/3 off 10 overs (form 60/0 off 6 overs) but still the favourites. Ravi bowled his 4 overs for 39 runs; going too experimental in his last over which went for 14. Arvind held one of his overs back for the 20th and brought on Deepak for Ravi and Neil for himself. Neil's first over was wayward and went for 15 (so the match seemed to be slip siding away) and he went for 20 runs in his 2 overs. The asking rate had now come down from 8 an over to 7 and only 3 wickets were down as E3B needed so Jazib had to replace Neil and duly obliged by clean bowling their top scorer and putting us more into the game. Unlikely hero Deepak proceeded to bowl a match winning spell, taking a wicket each in overs number 15, 17 & 19 giving just 25 runs (including just 4 in the penultimate over). He was helped by a stunning overhead catch taken by Neil at point and the Suvin's lunging one handed effort almost in front of an imaginary second slip. E3B need 19 to win off the last 2 overs and thanks to Deepak now needed 15 off the last with 3 wickets in hand . Arvind opted to bowl the last over safely floating the ball out of the hitting areas and inswinging a clean bowled first ball to more or less seal the game. Arvind 4-0-24-4, Deepak 3-0-25-3 and Jazib 4-0-25-1 did the damage to win us a thriller.
