Eastcote CC Sunday 1st Team v UCS Gowers on Sun 11 Jun 2023 at 1pm
Eastcote CC Won By 73 runs with 3.2 overs to spare.

Match report Chess Valley Premier League Game Two:

Eastcote won the toss and batted. Shivam and Neil settled down against a decent attack and put on 57 (Shivam 28 run out buy a whisker sent back). Neil 38 bowled (76 for 2). In form Jazib trapped LBW by an arm ball for 9 (85 for 3). Then Dillan hit some glorious shots and Akhil had the ball flowing like water off his bat and added a wrist snap bullet sweep to his game. Dillan got bowled off his first error for 38 (164 for 4). In strode Dhanesh and smote the ball hard as Akhil continued sublimely. They hit 141 runs off the last 15 overs in this 45 over clash to take ECC to 269 for 4 (45) from 128 for 3 (30). We were also 57 for 0(15): so the first 15 0vers were 57/0, next 15 overs were 71/3 and last 15 overs were 141/1. Shivam hit 3 fours, Neil 5 fours, Jazib 1 four, Dillan 8 fours, Akhil 14 fours and 1 six; Dhanesh 4 fours and 2 sixes (one of them with top hand only..straight over long on). It was sensible on merits batting against a good attack (their skipper did say they were really strong) with controlled aggression as the innings wore on. The last 10 overs yielded 90 runs.

A cloud cover and mild drizzle and ECC were like tigers in the filed despite two early drops at slip and Gully off Jazib's new ball spell. Jazib and Arvind kept it tight with the new ball as ECC built run rate pressure with accurate bowling. Jazib bowled one opener with a beauty outswing from leg to off and Arvind trapped the other opener LBW with an outswing leg to middle-off.14 for 1 then 2 (in the 4th over. They were 34/2 after 4 overs each with the new ball. Jazib continued for 7 overs (7-0-32-1) and skipper came off with 4-0-16-1 bringing Shivam on early. Shivam's first spell of 7 overs (7-0-29-3) got him 3 wickets and Ravi replacing Jazib bowled a great 7 over spell for 2 wickets. That finished UCS Gowers off. Shivam trapped their number 4 LBW in his second over then got their number 6 LBW in this 4th over. Ravi had their number 5 (keeper bat) brilliantly caught behind by Ishaan Patel who was electric.....diving , sprinting, covering 360 degrees like inner ring and keeper rolled into one and even running to the fine leg fence to stop a four. Akhil replaced Shivam after his 7 overs but not before Ravi ran like a demon from leg slip to short fineleg to catch a spiralling top edge over his shoulder off Shivam. UCS Gowers were now 82 for 6 and struggling. Then in Akhil's second over Ravi did a terrific run from slip[ to fineleg and sent a flat throw to Ishaan who swept the bails off in a flash to run out their well set number three (Joel Grabinaar). Two balls later Ishaan did a lightening stumping with Gagan Virk's toe lifting for an inch.....bang. The speed of that stumping was faster than the speed of light and sound put together. I didn't even see it. 102 for 8 (23 overs) and with their skipper having left, we were right on top. We kept it sensible knowing this pair could bat and Imtiaz was perfectly capable of a fast 100; by making it difficult for them to score, bowling in the right areas and spreading the field so the required rate went from 8 per over to over 15 gradually. Vinay replaced Akhil for a two over spell then Shivam had his last three from the Case end followed by Akhil; so the batters weren't allowed to settle as we took nothing for granted. Also the humidity was intense now and short spells kept the bowlers fresh. Jazib replaced Ravi for two overs of reverse swing followed by skiddy Veer with 4 tight overs then Ravi back to bowl a 1 run over further tightening the screws. Akhil's returning over saw lefthanded Imtiaz go for a 6 but Shivam at long on knew exactly where the rope was and took a great catch with the sideways technique IPL players use. QED.

The lads were splendid in intense heat/humidity all 11..... catching, chasing, stopping, running out, et all. On On Eastcote....Go Squirrels Go!
